Ida B. Wells became an activist in 1884, and worked in the anti-lynching campaign. She is also known for suing, and winning a case against the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad company after being forced to give up her seat in first class and move to the Jim Crow car.
Her work with the anti-lynching campaign came from her journalism and her heavy documentation of lynching across the United States. She was also active in the women’s rights and women’s suffrage movements, and taught elementary school.
