In 1968 John Conyers, Congressmen from Michigan introduced legislation to make Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday a holiday. It did not get put onto the floor and passed until Conyers and Shirley Chislom presented it until 1983.

On August 21, 1831, Nat Turner led the largest slave rebellion prior to the Civil War. The rebellion resulted in 60 white deaths and 100 black deaths. Turner was sentenced and hung after the rebellion.

I’m so mad at Rihanna. So doing a song with the man who beat your ass in a domestic dispute about sex is sending a great message to your fans who you say you love so much…I understand you are human and can forgive, but doing a song about sex with that person is a HORRIFIC EXAMPLE. Plus Chris Brown doesn’t even sound good on the song. SMH.

Ida B. Wells became an activist in 1884, and worked in the anti-lynching campaign. She is also known for suing,  and winning a case against the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad company after being forced to give up her seat in first class and move to the Jim Crow car. Her work with the anti-lynching campaign came from her journalism and her heavy documentation of lynching across the United States....
